INTENTIONAL STANCE

When the unthinkable, in some form suddenly appears before us, how do we relate to it? De Ateliers 2012 offspring clique didn't settle for a posture in this regard. Within the two years, they became increasingly aware and pushed forward their epistemological inquiry, genuinely further. In their De Ateliers studios, the institutionalized space for excess and incommensurability, the nine artists purposefully strived to open up a space of possibilities while resisting the constraints. This liberty wasn't declared but constructed and scrambled along the hardship of the artist's practice. The exhibition is an exigency expression of the permanent tension in their perpetual quest.

Bojan Šarčević, 2012

De Ateliers, established in 1963, is an independent, postgraduate artists' institute led by artists. New talent from the Netherlands and abroad is given the opportunity to work in a spacious studio, with the support of a grant and the critical feed back of prominent artists and critics who make studio visits weekly.
